Mayweather vs. Canelo: The Prediction

As time passed, and he became boxings biggest draw, his changed his moniker to Money Mayweather, and started The Money Team. While promoting his upcoming superfight with Saul Canelo Alvarez, Mayweather posted a photo of a case chock full of expensive watches$6.4m worth of watches to be precise. He captioned the photograph Its all about having choices. His gaudy horde of timepieces may seem extravagant, but money is not something Mayweather lacks. His recent 11-day promotional tour with Alvarez drew over 100,000 fans, and he pocketed $32m for fighting Robert Guerrero this past May. The fight with Alvarez, which will be held at MGM Grand Casino in Las Vegas, sold out in less than 24 hours, breaking the all-time record for a live gate by $19m.

They both know his fight style, one side praises it, and one sides shames it. They both know his lifestyle, one side accepts it, and one side disrespects it. Most importantly they both buy and attend his fights, one side wants him to win, and the other side wants him to lose. Looking at it big picture all that means is double the support, double the fanfare, and double the revenue. This is an incredible marketing strategy.

There are those who would place an asterisk next to not only his record, but to his brilliance itself. Not since being pushed to the limits by Jose Luis Castillo, particularly in December of 2002, has Mayweather knowingly faced opposition he wasn’t really sure of. Coming off of his clinical dissection and disecration of Robert “The Ghost” Guerrero (who offered not “ONE” phantom move in the entire fight), Mayweather again finds himself in the unenviable position of “that’s not good enough”. Blame whoever you want for this, including him, but Mayweather has simply not shown us what he can do against opposition “we think” can threaten that unblemished record.
